Sara Kennedy is an American soprano from Austin, Texas. Celebrated for her rich, powerful sound and commanding stage presence, she is establishing herself as an important emerging artist in both traditional and contemporary repertoire.
The 2024-2025 season held major role debuts as Sara took the stage as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Florida Grand Opera, and Ruth Atkins in the world premiere of Nicolas Flagello’s Beyond the Horizon with Teatro Grattacielo. In January 2025, Sara returned to Sarasota Opera as a studio artist where she sang Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana and covered Lina in Stiffelio and she will return again to Sarasota Opera in 2026 as Valencienne in The Merry Widow. Making waves in South Florida

Sara Kennedy is an alumna of the Florida Grand Opera Studio and the Sarasota Opera Apprentice and Studio Artist program. While at FGO, she starred as Musetta in the mainstage production of Puccini’s La Bohème, earning acclaim for her “energetic and sassy” portrayal and a “crystalline tone [that] served all the dimensions of Musetta.” (Operawire). As a studio artist at Sarasota, Sara peformed the role of Lola in Cavalleria rusticana and covered Lina in Verdi’s Stiffelio. Sara will be returning to Sarasota audiences in 2026 to perform Valencienne in The Merry Widow.

Masterful Mozart Portrayals

Celebrated for her captivating interpretations of Mozart heroines, Sara Kennedy brings depth and nuance to her hallmark roles of Donna Anna and Fiordiligi. Critics from Operwire hailed her Donna Anna in Don Giovanni as “excellent” and showcasing her “powerful upper register.” In 2024, Sara added another Mozart debut to her list with Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with FGO. Innovator in New Opera

Sara Kennedy is quickly establishing herself as an interpreter of contemporary music. She is breaking new ground with her commissioned work, Wings, a powerful exploration of a singer’s journey with self-image and mental health. This innovative project, in collaboration with Opera Arlington, composer EG Rudolph, and librettist Jude O’Dell, underscores her dedication to addressing vital issues through music. In September, Sara originated the role of Ruth Atkins in the world premiere of Nicolas Flagello’s Beyond the Horizon to critical acclaim with Teatro Grattacielo with critics praising her “powerful high notes but an equally plangent chest voice, earning bravos for her final arioso, “I now know what I did not know before.” (Arts Meme)
