Hailed as an “exciting singer with a killer voice” (Chris Ruel, Operawire), Sara Kennedy is an American soprano from Austin, Texas. Renowned for her rich, powerful sound and commanding stage presence, she is rapidly making a name for herself in both traditional and contemporary repertoire.

For the 2024–2025 season, Sara performs the role of Ruth Atkins in the world premiere of Nicolas Flagello’s Beyond the Horizon with Teatro Grattacielo and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Florida Grand Opera. She will also make her return to Sarasota Opera as a Studio Artist where she will perform Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana and cover Lina in Stiffelio.

Sara was a Studio Artist with Florida Grand Opera for the 2023–2024 season where she performed Annina and covered Violetta in La traviata, covered the role of Nedda in Pagliacci, and performed Musetta in La bohème.

In the summer of 2023, Sara made her company debuts with Opera Arlington performing Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte and with Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy and Painted Sky Opera performing Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. In March 2023, Sara was awarded 2nd Prize in the Bonnie Cummins Fielder Grant for Vocal Career Advancement by the Wednesday Morning Music Club of Austin.

In 2022, Sara joined Sarasota Opera as an Apprentice Artist for their Winter Season and, that summer, went on to be an Opera Fellow at OperaFest Sewanee. In July 2022, Sara was named a winner of the Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition where she performed “Mercè, dilette amiche” from I vespri siciliani with the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Gene Moon.

Sara completed her Graduate Artist Certificate in Opera from the University of North Texas in 2021. She also holds a B.M. in Music Education and an M.M. in Vocal Performance (University of North Texas).

Kennedy was simply the star of the night, her soprano soaring cleanly, her diction articulate and always clear. She displayed a resonant chest voice coupled with powerful high notes and tremendous balance with more parlato moments. Her aria was the highlight of the evening.

Reviews

Everyone knows a Musetta – the energetic and sassy “it girl,” Kennedy portrayed this flawlessly. Her crystalline tone served all the dimensions of Musetta.

Her bright soprano voice sounded excellent, with a powerful upper register. All-in-all, she was an exciting singer with a killer voice.
